Collections

I went to the Song Dong ‘Waste Not’ exhibition at Carriageworks the other weekend. Collections of  used, dusty and broken household items, including empty cardboard boxes, toothpaste tubes and bottle tops. Usually most of these items would be destined for a recycling centre. The dust gave me hayfever, and I felt a little exhausted by all the piles of ‘stuff’. However there was some beauty in seeing the patterns formed when like objects were grouped together.
It made me think of my small  collection of haberdashery items at home. It would be worthwhile to visit that cupboard, rediscover these items I’ve saved for special use.
It would be rewarding to breathe new life into my saved pieces and incorporate them into one of my photo textile projects.
